We are presently working on a project around the Autonomic Spectrum; a color wheel theoretics of autonomic state. As part of this project, we are working on state-specific menus. This is from the neuroception of danger/ verging on lifethreat, and the continuum of rage. This is at the about 3 o’clock on the wheel below, just south of the lightning strike.
Anger is hot, but rage burns. It is a burning that will not quench. It smolders in the heart, stoking itself, consuming, burning through.
Rage is consuming, blinding, self-fulfilling. It feeds on itself, righteous in its own immolation. It is like wildfire. It is like a bellows stoked by our thoughts, stoked by the pain of our own feeling of it. It makes the heart burn. It makes the heart feel like it is on fire.
There are other fires that can exist in the heart: vital fires. There is the fire of love, there is the fire of vitality. So fire is not the issue. The issue is the anger underneath it, the center of gravity shifting from safety into danger and lifethreat, where rage becomes wild, a frenzied untamed animal. A person who is truly enraged does not know what they will do.
